Sermon: "Greed - A Deadly Sin" - Rev. Edgar De Jesus

Colossians 3:5-6 "Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). On account of these the wrath of God is coming on those who are disobedient."

Luke 12:13-21 "Someone in the crowd said to him, 'Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.' But he said to him, 'Friend, who set me to be a judge or arbitrator over you?' And he said to them, 'Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.' Then he told them a parable: 'The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, "What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?" Then he said, "I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry." But God said to him, "You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?" So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich towards God.'"

• UMW Circle 2 invites you to support the "Pregnancy Support Center Baby Bottle"
  Take home a baby bottle, add your loose change, folding money, or a one-time donation by check tax-deductible). Please pick up baby bottles at the church and return them to Eleanor Holeman by June 14. The Pregnancy Support Center is Christian-based mission ministry in Person County reaching out to all in a crisis pregnancy. For details, pls. contact @ 336.599.6562 or eholeman@roxborosavings.com.
• Mt. Zion UMC (135 Clay Long Rd) will be having a Mom-to-Mom Sale on Saturday, May 30th from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm in the New Fellowship Hall. You ask, what is a mom-to-mom sale? It's basically moms coming together to buy or sell gently used children's clothing, toys, books, beds, etc. If you're interested in selling (items from infant - teens) or getting more information, please contact Pamela Barzdins at 336-364-2129 or greengirl132@yahoo.com.

• Save your aluminum beverage cans to be recycled with the money going to Relay for Life. Leave cans on the dock of the New Fellowship Hall.
• Sign up or contact Larry Davis to help as Sunday School Devotional Leader for 2009.
