Sermon: Being A Church of Mission by Rev. Edgar De Jesus

Acts 13:1-3 "Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a member of the court of Herod the ruler, and Saul. While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, 'Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.' Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off."

1 Corinthians 16:5-9 "I will visit you after passing through Macedonia-for I intend to pass through Macedonia- and perhaps I will stay with you or even spend the winter, so that you may send me on my way, wherever I go. I do not want to see you now just in passing, for I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits. But I will stay in Ephesus until Pentecost, for a wide door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many adversaries."

Our Winners Circle: 1st: Maci Tuck, 2nd: Christianna Dail, 3rd: Caroline Scott Honoraries: Lauren Brann, Alora Horton, Colton Wrenn, Rachel Green, Matthew Holeman, Elaine DeJesus, & Emily Pierce. (Many others are members of our "Race Team" but these were the actual participants.)

• Administrative Board Meeting Date Changed The Administrative Board Meeting date has changed. It is now on Sunday, September 21 at 5:00pm.
• Youth Sunday School Announcement: The Council on Ministries met this past Sunday and decided to divide the Youth Sunday School Class into two classes: Younger Youth Sunday School Class (6th-7th Grade) and Older Youth Sunday School Class (8th Grade-12th Grade). David Jones and Tammy Tuck will lead the Younger Youth SS Class while Kaneasha Shackelford will lead the Older Youth SS Class. Pastor Edgar will be an alternate. The locations of these two classes will be on the second floor of the New Fellowship Hall. This will take effect beginning this Sunday (September 14).
• Preschool The Mt. Zion Preschool Program has about 5 openings for the 3-year old class within the 2008/2009 academic year. Please contact Maria Lea, Preschool Director at 364-2746 or 599-7085.
• Sunday School Devotion I just wanted to let all of you know how thankful I am for the precious few volunteers who have shared in our Sunday School Devotion time this year. If you haven't had the opportunity to share in this time yet, please join us on Sunday's at 9:45. As most of you know a brief poll was taken as to whether we should keep this time as it has been in the past. It was decided to leave it as is. However, it takes volunteers to keep it alive. As I come to the end of my year of coordinating these devotions, I have a few open slots for the rest of 2008. If you would like to volunteer to share a devotion during this time, please let me know. The open dates are: Oct 26, Nov 2, Nov 23, Nov 30, Dec 14, Dec 28 Blessings, Angie Solomon
• Methodist Men The October Men's Breakfast Fellowship will be cancelled due to the Harvest Sale weekend prior to Oct. 5. Our next Men's Breakfast Fellowship will be on Nov. 2 at 7:15am. Spread the word.
• Relay for Life The Relay for Life Team is recycling aluminum cans. Dale Rimmer will be taking a load next week. Please have all cans at the church by Sunday, September 14th.
• Thermostats Announcement: Terry Bolton installed protective covers on all thermostats at the church and old fellowship hall with pre-programmed temperature. If you need to adjust the air or heat, the key is at the Pastor's Office (with new felllowship hall keys above the copier). For emergency, Terry Bolton and Bruce Wrenn will also have the keys. Thanks.
